This is not a new concept. A classic example is Marilyn Monroe. She was born Norma Jean Baker, and she was a brunette. A brunette named Norma? That's about as sexy as a mailbox. Far cry from what we know of Marilyn today. When she came to Hollywood, she knew what she wanted to be: a sex icon. Of course she had a team of people to style her and direct her and help her transform, but I love using her as an example because she really did create an image for herself. And the best part about her re-invention in particular? It is timeless.
Brunette Norma... |
Hello, Marilyn! |
Re-invention doesn't have to simply happen for Hollywood or to be a sex icon. I mean, if that's what you want, go for it! But, if you want to change something about yourself, change it! The only thing that is ever in your way is your own fears and insecurities. One of my favorite quotes is from, dare I say it, Paris Hilton. I found it in one of her books (I was a lost 12-year old girl, don't judge!) and it said, "If you believe you're the most important person in the room, you'll be the most important person in the room." I LOVE that . Sort of the "fake it till you make it" attitude, but instead of faking, being supremely confident. I think that the key to any change is confidence and determination. I think that the world is in a constant state of change, and one must adapt to the changes however they want to make sure they have a happy and successful life. If that comes from going from wallflower to social butterfly, so be it! Name one thing standing in your way.
Exactly. There's nothing.
I really hope this all doesn't sound to crazy. I'm not trying to say that abandoning everything about yourself to be something you're not will make you happy. But I think everyone grows, and everyone has things they want to change about themselves. So why not now? See the person you want to be and become that person! No matter how different it feels, if you believe it and have that image of yourself, surely other people will as well.
Today my apartment is a wreck, so I think I'll be Rosie the Riveter. :D
