Morning Notes

A former voice teacher of mine (she'll remain nameless out of respect for her privacy, but this woman is INCREDIBLE) once suggested using "morning notes" to get out all of my thoughts and ideas. Morning notes are basically when you first wake up in the morning, you jot down whatever pops into your mind. They can be random words, lyrics- anything. Don't even think about it, just write before your brain fully wakes up and tries to monitor what you write or think. The thoughts you jot down here will be the most authentic and untouched by any outside factors.
These notes aren't meant to be incredibly thorough, nor are you going to find any substantial meaning in most of them. However, you might find that you've written an abstract idea, and can elaborate on it when you are fully conscious. I used to do this as a musician to relieve stress and really connect with a piece emotionally. Looking at words and phrases I wrote in the morning sometimes gave me new perspectives on things that I normally would not have noticed.
I brought this up because I've been using morning notes lately for PR. I've been in the early stages of planning for a client, and sometimes I've gone to bed completely spent and uninspired. As the worrying, perfectionist Scorpio I am, I went to bed with the stress a number of times. I woke up a few mornings and just let my mind run free on the page and actually came up with a few good ideas to bring up to this client.
It might sound bizarre. Trust and believe, I really did not get into it for a while because I thought I wouldn't end up with more than a few scribbles. But if you are feeling uninspired or not particularly creative, go to sleep, wake up, and give it a whirl. Let me know what you think and what you all come up with!
