Something I've been thinking about lately is professionalism. We all know that what we do now will come back to get us later, and it is never too early to start crafting your professional image for future jobs and employers. Of course, this includes monitoring what we wear, what is on our social media pages, and what we say. What I wonder is: how do you stay professional without losing who you are, and your personal style?
PR is known for being fiercely competitive. You may think you're on top of your game, but there's always someone who can do your job quicker and better than you can. With that stress, on top of the expectations from you clients, it could be easy for you to cave and try to emulate someone else and their tactics to do your job. It might be a co-worker, someone you idolize, or something you've imagined. It is fine to be inspired by someone and even use them as motivation to keep yourself going strong. However, something to keep in mind is that your client hired you. They trust you with their project, your vision. Make improvements where they are needed, and use others as inspiration, but do not psych yourself out and feel like you have to change completely when you see something working for someone else. Stay patient and true to your technique. Publicists are everywhere and there are so many different styles and personalities- if everyone is the same, where's the fun in that?!
Okay, I know I said the blog was going to take more of a specific-to-PR turn, but this blog just wouldn't be be without these little pep talks. Hey, that's just my style. ;)
